The Pahi draws inspiration from the shapes found in the original Hawaiian weapons as well as our natural surroundings to create a sleek design with sweeping curves and connecting lines. The lines drawn from the bottom of the Koa inlay continue through the transition of the grind line on the blade. The top of the knife creates one continuous sweeping arc while the bottom line follows smoothly through to the blade while providing excellent feel in the hand. What is the Pahi?
The Pahi is our EDC "everyday-carry" pocket knife — real curly Hawaiian Koa (or abalone shell) inlaid into a slim frame, drop-tough, one-hand open, and priced at a fraction of what a knife with these details would normally cost. Pahi means "knife" in Hawaiian. Made-to-order in our small shop in Honolulu.
How sharp is it and what's the blade made of?
The blade is high-carbon stainless steel — 8Cr13MOV. It takes & holds a sharp edge, won't rust or shatter. It ships sharp out of the box (watch your fingers). It's an EDC pocket knife, not a chef's knife, but it handles everything from opening boxes to cutting rope to slicing coconut on the beach.
What's the difference between the Koa and the Abalone versions?
Same knife, different inlay. The Koa versions show off the curly Hawaiian Koa grain — warmer, wood-forward look. The Abalone versions use real shell inlay from Maui — flashier, more colorful, with the shimmer changing in the light. Both are sealed under a clear coating so they hold up to daily carry. Gunmetal or Copper on the frame is a personal-taste call.
Is it one handed opening?
Yes — there is a cantilever mechanism that allows easy opening with one-hand. Simply pull back on the flipper tab and the blade flops securely in place. A frame lock holds the blade in place. A flush mounted pocket clip is pushed to the very edge of the frame so that it disappears in your pocket. Small enough to carry everyday, large enough to do real work.
What's special about the Hawaiian Koa wood?
We use only the most rare and beautiful "curly" grained Koa from the Big Island of Hawaii — the tightest curl density is what makes the wood look like it's moving in the light. Pictures really can't do it justice. I waited 10 years for the current log of curly Koa. The wood is sustainably harvested from dead or dying trees on private land — no live-tree harvesting — and hand-finished in our shop in Honolulu.
Do you offer exchanges? Is it gift-ready?
Yes — our automated support portal makes exchanges easy and free. We package this in our guilt free recyclable small box..nothing fancy, but it gets the job done and self destructs (in a landfill)
