Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Koa and Mother of Pearl Tag Pendant Necklace?
A dog-tag-style pendant that combines our two favorite elements — curly Hawaiian Koa wood and blue mother-of-pearl — set in surgical-grade stainless steel. This design was drawn up on my desk here in Honolulu, so you won't find it elsewhere. The symbolic pattern around the outer band represents ohana (family) — a united effort of support. 1.75" x 5/8" pendant on a 23" color-matched chain that sits below the collar.
Is the pendant life-proof and waterproof?
Yes — designed life-proof from day one. The Koa wood inlay is sealed under a clear epoxy resin that locks out water, sweat, sunscreen, and daily wear. The frame is surgical-grade stainless steel — hypoallergenic and corrosion-proof. Shower, swim, and live in it. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater and dry.
What makes Pono jewelry different from other Koa pieces?
Everything you see here was drawn up on my desk here in Honolulu, so you won't find our designs anywhere else. I love to take inspiration from the beauty and culture that surrounds us here.
What's special about the Hawaiian Koa wood?
We use only the most rare and beautiful "curly" grained Koa from the Big Island of Hawaii — the tightest curl density is what makes the wood look like it's moving in the light. Pictures really can't do it justice. I waited 10 years for the current log of curly Koa. The wood is sustainably harvested from dead or dying trees on private land — no live-tree harvesting — and hand-finished in our shop in Honolulu.
Do you offer exchanges? Is it gift-ready?
Yes — no-worries exchanges on everything. If it doesn't fit, isn't quite right, or you just want to swap it, our automated support portal makes the exchange easy and free. Every piece ships beautifully packaged and ready to give, so it's an easy gift…you just tell the story.
