Koa Wood Apple Watch Bands — Real Hawaiian Koa | Pono Woodworks

Infuse some SOUL into your Apple Watch: Koa Wood iWatch Bands

I'm certain Apple isn't waiting on my opinion with bated breath, but I think we all can agree that the Apple Watch is an amazing little piece of tech. The only fault I can find with the iWatch, and it's minor, is that it’s so functional and so polished, it starts to be devoid of any personality…and at this point in it's lifecycle, doesn't say much of anything about the wearer. Maybe it says..function and form over flamboyance and style…that would be fair. Or business in the front, business in the back…no mullets here. I’m not knocking them, I’ve got one and I love it...I just miss wearing something with personality..you know, my koa wood watches : ).

What’s wrong with the apple watch?

Nothing...but I’ve got to pay for three kid's schools and need to sell some koa wood watch bands...so here's my pitch, hold my beer. Most men love watches for their mechanical goodness, artistic design, craftsmanship, rarity and of course expense. We all know the guy driving a Corolla with a Rolex..a true connoisseur. It’s usually the only place where a man displays any style choices at all.. sure, we have our clothes, but those are usually dictated by work. I’d venture to say, the watch can tell you the most about the person wearing it.

WHY put a wood band on an Apple Watch?

At Pono Woodworks, we like to infuse a bit of Hawaiian style into all our creations.. For our Koa wood Apple Watch bands, we feel we put just the right amount of soul back into the tech. The curly Koa wood is one of the rarest woods on the planet so you’ve got that going for you… and I hand finish and inlay the Koa in my shop in Honolulu, HI.. so you get the craftsmanship angle. You get every bit of the smartwatch, without the factory default setting look. I’d love to charge you omega prices so you can brag about the expense, but that wouldn’t fit with our ethos. We try and make Hawaiian Style obtainable.

THE HERO: Titanium, Rubber, and Koa Ultra Band.

Our titanium Koa band ads functionality, style and a warmth of presence to the apple watch. The rubber provides a bit of give for the perfect fit while the metal provides protection and an upscale look. It has an easy but secure magnetic clasp. This is one of my favorite new creations.. the koa is hand inlaid in the iWatch band by me..in my shop in Honolulu. I try to match the grain pattern through the series of inlays so it connects.I use only the craziest curly koa for these. This band fits the Ultra best but also fits the larger apple watch lineup.

THE OG: Our Koa and Stainless Apple Watch Band.

The original and my first attempt at melding Koa into a metal band. It’s a more traditional band look and feel with heavy duty stainless links and a butterfly clasp for a bit of elegance.I hand inlay our super curly Koa wood into the links in my shop making this band qualify for Made in Hawaii. The band width is 24mm and fits the larger apple watch band versions..

Maximum Koa Goodness: this is it. Solid Koa Wood watch band

If you’re looking for the maximum amount of Koa, our solid koa bands fit the assignment. They're available in 22 and 24mm widths to fit all sizes, and offered with Silver and dark Gunmetal to match the watches. Wood isn’t generally a great band material but we’ve added a metal stringer down the middle for a bit of style and strength as well as end links in solid stainless to match the stringer. This fixes the weak link in the bands and gives it enough toughness for everyday wear.

What's the final verdict on Koa wood Apple Watch bands?

Certainly we’re a bit biased but we love the idea of fusing the Hawaiian Koa story into tech that seems a bit stale otherwise. No matter what style of wood apple watch band fit’s your vibe, you’re sure to get a product with Hawaiian soul, legendary Pono Woodworks customer service and a story to tell.

FAQs

Apple Watch bands fit by case size. The Titanium + Koa Ultra band is built for the Ultra and large apple watches. The Stainles fits the ultra and larger iWatch. The solid koa band comes in 22mm and 24mm widths to fit the standard lineup. Before you order, match your case size to the right band —

Fair question — it’s a band you’ll wear constantly. Our hybrid bands (metal w/ inlayed Koa) are sealed and can handle most anything you throw at it...Surfing, gym, hikes..should be all good.  Our solid Koa bands are a bit more delicate although we've re-enforced the weak points. Like any fine wood piece, it’s happiest kept out of prolonged soaks and harsh chemicals — treat it like a nice watch, not a dive strap.

All the bands have links that can be removed to adjust the size.  Amazon sells link removal tools for super cheap..they work great or you can have any watch shop handle it.

Quick guide...what fits your vibe?.. our latest is the Titanium + Koa Ultra Band — if you’ve got an Apple Watch Ultra, it’s a no-brainer and the toughest band we make. Have a standard Apple Watch and want the most wood and size options? The Solid Koa Band nails it..but for lighter duty applications. Prefer a slimmer, understated inlay? The Koa + Stainless Band. Every piece of koa is one-of-a-kind, so you’re never getting the same grain twice.

Yes — real Hawaiian curly koa, hand-finished in our Honolulu shop, paired with metal hardware (titanium on our Ultra band). It’s solid wood, not a print or veneer, so every band’s grain is one-of-a-kind.

The individual case sizes are listed on the product page for each band.  Our bands fit  with 38mm, 40mm, 41mm, and 42mm case sizes. 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm bands are compatible with 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm case sizes. See individual product pages for details.

We like to make things that can take a beating.  The metal with inlay bands are tougher and can be taken surfing, swimming, whatever.. the solid Koa is a bit more delicate and will hold up but probably best to take it off before showering or swimming.

Yes — verifiable curly koa, hand-finished in Honolulu. Less than 1% of koa has the curly grain we hold out for, which is why every band looks a little different.

1 year warranty.. just let us know and we take care of you.  Theres a reason our brand has such a high star rating.
