We're always tinkering and trying new things here in the shop...sometimes it blows up spectacularly and sometimes we create a magic little nugget.  These turned out pretty magic and we love the combination of earth and sea.  The abalone comes from Maui and is responsibly harvested.  The Koa of course comes from private ranches on the Big Island from dead or dying trees....so...this doesn't have to be your guilty pleasure.

  • Slim case design (all the protection, none of the bulk)
  • Sustainably Harvested Hawaiian Koa and Abalone (no need to feel guilty)
  • Drop tested and approved (we're like drunken sailors around the shop)
  • Protection on all sides (including raised front lip to protect the screen)
  • Made in Hawaii (yes that's still considered made in the USA)
  • NOTE-- slide case sideways off a magnet holder instead of pulling..much better for the magnet

The cases are a combination of hard plastic backer and soft TPU sides which will bounce when dropped...we don't recommend testing that although we're pretty sure you'll find out eventually. All this work to create a one of a kind reminder of the islands...The Islands are Calling.

I started using construction adhesive to glue in the magnets and am getting a much better result.  I’ve found that if I slide the phone off the magnet to the side, the hold of the magnet breaks its force and I don’t have issues.  If I pull it straight out and off a strong magnet, it can pull the whole magnet out…and that’s embarrassing.

HAND MADE IN HAWAII...DID WE MENTION THAT BIT OF RIDICULOUSNESS

A ton of work goes into getting you the perfect phone case...here's the rundown...I hand pick every piece of Koa for amazing grain patterns which I then hand sand, finish with water-based poly, laser cut, sip a beer, etch a design, apply ink and assemble. Like I said, pretty much ridiculousness...but it makes a super unique wood phone case.

SHOOTS...BUT WHAT ABOUT THE WOOD?

We use only the finest sustainably harvested "curly" grained Koa wood from the Big Island of Hawaii. Koa only grows in Hawaii and was once reserved for royalty. It was used for the first surfboards, warrior's weapons and the outrigger sailing canoes that explored the Pacific. Read the full Hawaiian Koa Wood Story →

YEAH, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CASE...

two words...drunken sailers...that's what we are like in the shop...dropping and generally mistreating our phones. The case bouces when dropped (take my word for it) and protects nicely while being as thin as possible...cause who wants a brick in their pocket.

THE ISLANDS ARE CALLING... HELLOOOO!

The perfect reminder of Hawaii that will literally go everywhere with you. Don't forget to grab one as a gift for someone missing the islands.

SMALL BATCH PRODUCTION

...if you can call it that. Each case is made in my shop...I sand, finish with poly, laser etch and cut, assemble, and ink every case that goes out the door. No wonder I'm not surfing these days.
