ISLAND INSPIRED DESIGN
The design concept was to pay homage to the ancient Hawaiian watermen by incorporating elements a modern waterman would appreciate...and most anyone else I might add : ). The lugs are stylized longboard fins with fcs type screws on the side. Yes, the second hand is shaped like a paddle and the ocean waves flow beneath the moon-phase window.
A BIT MORE ON THE DESIGN...
Of course we color matched the turnable bezel to the color of the Pacific Ocean at my favorite spot outside of Kona. The rounded shape draws from the lava rock beach stones found around Maui and the Big Island. The crowns shape is inspired by the winches on a sailboat and is inset to prevent rubbing on your hand. Finally, our best "curly" grained Koa wood, hand finished in our shop in Honolulu, ensures the face becomes the crowning jewel.

Koa only grows in the Hawaiian islands and we use only the most rare and beautiful "curly" grained Koa. It gives an iridescence and movement to the wood. FOCUS.....THIS IS IMPORTANT
Sizing...The Waterman is a 47mm case. This fits most everyone's wrists without looking too big. It certainly won't be mistaken for a small watch but also won't look ridiculously rapper-esque big either.

We design our wood watches and hand finish the Koa wood in our small shop in Honolulu. We've focused on small batch production so we can guarantee the best quality while providing a wood watch that is truly unique and rare. We use only the most amazing "curly" grained Koa from the Big Island...the most rare, beautiful, and expensive. We encase our Koa in an equally worthy case using a stainless body, sapphire crystal, Japanese moon-phase movement.

I bought this watch to commemorate my Hawaii trip. While it is a big larger at 44mm than I normally wear, the shape of the bezel does not make it appear that big. Lovely wood and coloring. Very satisfied with this memory

Beautiful koa wood face watch. It's the perfect addition to my koa-accented wedding band and a koa top guitar I have. The blue accent around the face is a deep navy blue, a nice subtle pop of color. The moon window is a very cool and unique feature. It's not something that I really plan to ever use, but it looks beautiful and sets it apart from your standard watch face. As someone who loves Hawaiian culture and paddleboarding, all of the subtle homages included in the watch are great. The silicone band is very comfortable on the wrist and easy to clean, too.
A very cool bonus is the zipper case that the watch comes in. Nothing fancy, but much nicer than a simple cardboard box. You reuse for another purpose or keep it in case you need to safely store the watch.
The butterfly clasp: I had to look up how to open the clasp on YT because I couldn't figure out how to get the band through the metal loop with the pin sticking up, but it's very simple once you know. The loop has a hinge on it, so you simply pry it up with your finger and the band can then be adjusted as needed. See picture.

While officiating my God Daughter’s wedding on Kauai, they gifted me a Pono Waterman. It is a beautiful watch, fits perfectly, and I really like the bank color. I have other watches with a butterfly clasp, but was unable to successfully put together. I had planned a trip to Hawaii and began to receive information about Pono Watches. When in Kaui I saw the watches in person. I knew I wanted one. So I purchased one and it didn't work. I think it was on the shelf too long. I returned the watch and immediately ordered directly from Pono woodworks. I have love the watch ever since it arrived. I recently bought the Waterman Blackout Watch and it quickly became my favorite watch I own. It looks fantastic and works great. What’s even better is their customer service. Maybe not a Rolex but a very well built quality watch with much Aloha! This quality extends to the woodwork, strap and storage case. Very nice design and a lot of bang for the bucks especially since it's on sale. Something to remind me of the islands where I grew up everytime I put this on my wrist.
