Discover the Unbe-leaf-able Designs of Pono Woodworks: Crafting Unique Wood Jewelry with Aloha!
Aloha seekers of distinctive wood jewelry and horrible puns! We’re not much for tooting our own horn…we'd much prefer to keep our heads down grinding it out in the shop and let our creations do the talking. But, as the saying goes, “does a bear…uh..wait, no that’s wrong. “If a tree falls in the woods.. and no one’s around”… well, you get the idea. We’re better off locked in the shop so I’ll just outline what makes our wood jewelry unique. Toot toot!
Hawaiian Koa Wood Beauty and Rarity
What sets our wood jewelry apart is the infusion of Hawaiian “curly” grained Koa’s unparalleled beauty and rarity. Sourced from the lush high elevations of the Big Island of Hawaii, Old growth Koa wood has the most amazing combinations of browns, golds, reds, and undulating curl in the grain creating a 3d appearance. Not all Koa has this amazing look, in fact, “curly” koa only comprises about 2% of all Koa.
All Koa wood is extremely rare because large portions of the old growth forests were cleared for ranching in the 1800’s and logging is not allowed on government owned land. We use responsibly harvested Koa from dead or dying trees from people we trust to avoid any sort of impropriety. We bring the process full circle by hand-finishing with great care and expertise in our Honolulu workshop. The depth, richness and history of the Koa wood lends our pieces an unmatched story and allure.
Originality in Design
We take pride in our original in-house designs. Every piece, whether it's a men's wooden wedding ring, a wooden necklace, or a wood cuff, carries our stamp of originality. You won’t find our designs elsewhere unless, of course, they've been copied, imitated, and copied again…which happens quite a lot. We were the first to make tungsten Koa rings that spawned an industry. We were the first to make Koa phone cases, minimalist wallets and Koa waterproof watches…all since copied and imitated.
Authenticity is the cornerstone of Pono Woodworks and we love to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can create with Koa wood. I ink out our designs on my desk and infuse the inspiration of the Hawaiian islands around me to create unique pieces that tell a story.
Quality of Craftsmanship
Our wooden jewelry is crafted with the same dedication to detail and perfection as our design process. Our goal is to design our pieces to stand up to the abuse of daily life. It’s easy to say but we stand behind our creations and will always make it right…whatever the issue. …and I think that says everything.
